For Simone Dietz, one thing is certain: everyone deserves the same opportunities.
That is why she is involved as a mentor for young people at JOBLINGE in Leipzig.
She is an authorized signatory of Leipziger Messe Gastveranstaltungen GmbH, a subsidiary of Leipziger Messe, and one of many Leipzig companions we are introducing on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of JOBLINGE gAG Leipzig.
Why are you involved with JOBLINGE?
With my own children, it was always important to me to accompany and support them on their educational journey.
But I am aware that not all young people can get the support they need from their family or social environment – and therefore face greater challenges from the outset.
But they deserve just as much of a chance and someone to support them.
The JOBLINGE program makes exactly that possible, which is why I was involved right from the start.
Why are mentors important for young people?
It is about encouraging young adults in their independence and autonomy, being there to answer questions and motivating them to seize opportunities that they might otherwise miss out on.
Mentors are particularly important in this situation.
They enable an exchange on professional issues and often beyond.
Even if the young people have not had a good basis for a successful career so far: The opportunity they get with the JOBLINGE program is incredibly valuable and they should seize it.
Mentors are there to support the young adults along the way, but they can’t do anything for them because they will have to assert themselves later on.
Your former JOBLINGE mentee Rico Mücke then did his apprenticeship at Leipziger Messe.
What made him so convincing?
With his school report alone, Rico’s chances of an apprenticeship in our company would not have been high.
But he was able to convince us with his personal appearance and his particular diligence.
It was great how committed he was right from the start.
He made the most of this opportunity, gained practical experience and really earned his apprenticeship.
Rico is the best example of the value of the JOBLINGE program and the opportunities it opens up.
As a result, his final certificates were really good.
What have you yourself learned from your mentee?
Rico now works in the IT department at Leipziger Messe and he is far superior to me when it comes to technical matters.
He has the say and the knowledge in this area.
I’m delighted that we meet as colleagues today as a matter of course.
Thank you very much for the interview and your commitment, Ms. Dietz!
A big thank you also to Leipziger Messe, which is a reliable partner in supporting young people: whether mentoring, internships, entry qualifications, apprenticeships or subsequent employment.
Thank you!
